| A Photo's Story | Poster Power | WWII Speeches | WWII Music / Pictures | |

This is as simple as it sounds. Or is it? The key to this project is simple, students as well as the teacher must look up three photo's each and describe what this photo can mean from a variety of perspectives. The same image does not speak the same language to the person viewing it. Think about that sentence for a moment, and take into account each of these photos. Then apply that to the photos you find and share it with the class.
Now for the Students, think about these five things:
1. How do the photo's above as well as the photos you find tell a story? What is that story?
2. Find some photos of political leaders from World War II and then compare them to new photos of leaders from before that time period, after that time period, and even today. What differences are there and why has the media done to contribute to these changes. (HINT: President Roosevelt during WW2)

3. The power of the propaganda poster is unstoppable. World War II was one of the last true eras where hand drawings were used in such high abundance. There simply isn’t anything like this out there anymore. Instead today their are new ways of using propaganda but through a more behind the scenes and stealthy way. How is this so? (HINT: Think of the Intro to "The Kingdom")
4. Just by looking up posters such as these online how can you tell whose poster it is? What is the message?
5. Lastly, why do we study these? What is the point in all this? What story can we depict from these images?
TEACHERS: How can you use images as a tool in your classrooms?
1. Like used above to show photo's and posters to get a feel for the thoughts of a time period and the people who lived in it.
2. If you are unable to get an item to show a class or use as an example of something a photo will suffice a good portion of the time.
3. In your presentations to keep students interested, many students learn through visual stimulation and photos are the perfect tool for that.
4. A photo is worth a thousand words. What words come to mind when you show your students a particular photo of what you are teaching about. Write down what they say and see what you get out of them.
5. Push them to make PowerPoint’s and other projects that include photos and images from numerous sources. This also gets them using the internet and other programs so they become more familiar with them.

11th – 12th Grade: Famous Speeches of World War II
Winston Churchill's "We will fight them..." speech.
Other Churchill Speeches: Click Here
Good day class! Welcome to one of your first online assignments. With the ever evolving technological world around us and its ever mutating advancements, having classes online has become more practical due to the way we now communicate via the internet; we now must form classes online. The advantages to this allows the students the time they need to complete the assignment while at the same time giving them the ability to stay in constant communication with their group and teacher if need by via the internet until further questioning and organization can be done in person.
Your assignment: Today we are going to gather information and go over the famous speeches of World War II. There are numerous times when the oratory skills of men like Winston Churchill, Franklin D. Roosevelt, and Even Joseph Stalin, Adolf Hitler, and Benito Mussolini hold within them the views, the opinions, and the history of a country and of a leaders mentality towards the topic at hand. There are so many good speeches during this era (and just because we don’t agree with them doesn’t mean they aren’t good or valuable for us to learn about). That I am going to give you an almost completely free hand in what speeches you choose. The only obligation you must fulfill is to contact me about what speech you wish to do.
Here are some helpful links:

http://zamzar.com/ - Online Video and Audio Converter (Seems more effective than Vixy)
www.google.com : Use Google to find out the words as well as perhaps the different speeches that were given during the WW2 era. Find what you like and if you can try to find it in audio form.
www.youtube.com : Use this in conjunction with the converters to get what you need for the PowerPoint or whatever you may use for your presentation.
Again if anyone needs help please come to me. If you need ideas or perhaps you are unsure of something, do not hesitate to ask.
The WWII Music / Picture Powerpoint
11th – 12th Grade: Examining situations with slides and song
British Struggle PowerPoint: Click Here
This project requires a certain amount of effort and knowledge of a particular battle, side, or otherwise story of an event, place, thing, or person. in reality this sort of PowerPoint can be applied to anything, however I need you the students to make sure you come to me first about the subject matter of the PowerPoint so I know we're all on the right track. Follow the directions provided below to get started and if you have any questions please feel free to contact me.
1. Your first tank will be to get a group of three students including yourself, you will be working with this group throughout the project.
2. After that you will then come up with a particular subject together. In doing this you must then come to me for approval.
3. I will give you time to work in class and out of it to gather photo from the internet as well as other locations. In doing this you must make a timeline with the photos.
4. From here you must think of someone who was involved in this historic event and from there attempt to find a saying, quotes, or other meaningful text that can be associated with your project's photos.
5. Make sure the PowerPoint is animated to add a more dramatic effect for each slide.
6. After all is said and done you then add music. You must make sure you add music to the slide show and not the other way around. The reason for this is that it is much, much easier to apply music to a PowerPoint rather than applying the PowerPoint to music.
7. Once you are finished with this come see me and show me your work. From there we can work out any kinks that there might be.
